Reminders:
  • Lunch today provided for Catholic Schools Week!
  • Student Council's Variety Show Thursday, February 1 at 7:00
  • Winter Pep Rally at 2:00 on Friday, February 2!
  • School assembly for Damon Owens at 1:00 on Wednesday, February 7
  • Friday, February 9 is 7th grade shadow day! Resurrection students have no school this day.
  • I will be writing our next blog post Wednesday, February 14. Please send me updates, shout-outs, and/or pictures you have! Please feel free to send them as they happen- I'll hold onto them until I write the next post!

Records:
  • Placement for the Class of 2022 has been completed and communicated.
  • Placement for our current juniors, sophomores & freshmen is underway as we gear up for registration in March.
    Practicum:
    • Practicum students are busy getting ready for their field experiences which begin the week of February 20!
    • Students will be attending an orientation session for Presence Resurrection Medical Center rotations on Thursday, February 8. Rotations at PRMC include the emergency department, family practice, radiology and ultrasound, the family birth place, cancer infusion therapy, case management, physical therapy, speech language and pathology, occupational therapy, and inpatient pharmacy. 
    • Students who signed up for surgical services at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital will be attending an orientation session on Thursday, February 22. These students will have opportunities to observe surgeries, shadow a physician assistant and anesthesiologist, and complete rotations in the GI laboratory. 
    Academic Support:
    • Sam and Bri are working on placements for both incoming freshmen and current students for next year.
    • Individual meetings are being held for each department that offers support level classes. We are reflecting on the first semester of this level being implemented, and deciding on improvements for next year. 
    • Semester 2 of RtI began last Friday. We are off to a good start. 
    College Counseling:
    • College 101 is off to a great start with juniors! We've almost completed 2 weeks of college prep lessons/activities
    • Scholarships and acceptances keep rolling in! Go seniors!
    • Counselors will be around to Freshman in February to talk about Naviance and GPA
    General Counseling:
    • A big thanks to Tam for all her help with the Angst presentation. The survey feedback was positive. Students noted that it was real and informative.  
    • Sheri is working with students for transition group and Mary has 2 more sessions with the grief group.  The social skills support group will hopefully start late February.  They will be sending out an email in the near future for social skills group referrals. If you have any please let Sheri or Mary know.
    • Freshman second semester meetings have been insightful. Students completed an online survey prior to meeting with the counselors.  During these meetings the counselors check in on the students' academic progress thus far, their adjustment socially, as well as any outside factors that may be occurring.  
    • Mary attended a conference on high functioning autism.  A lot of good information was provided that can be supportive for our current students as well as the social skills group that Sheri and Mary will be starting up soon.

    Happy New Year!

    Reminders:
    • Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fantastic break!
    • January 19 and January 26 will be career days
    • January 22 begins Natural Helpers Week!
    • Generalist counselors & Academic Support- the next staffing is January 22 at 1:30
    • A welcome dinner for the Class of 2022 will be held on January 23
    • January 24 is a noon dismissal. Faculty and staff will be viewing the film Angst presented by Mary Bridich, Sheri Damery, and Tam Bernardin.
    • January 28 begins Catholic Schools week
    • There will be an all school liturgy on January 29 at 8:30am

    Records:
    *The Records Office has been buzzing! 
    • We tested 163 freshman in December, and their records were pouring in before break.  
    • 93% have been accepted, with the remaining 7% being further evaluated.
    • We will be sending course placement letters, after which we will begin preparing for registration.
      Semester grades are processed. Honor Rolls will be released today.
      Practicum:
      • Second semester Exploring Careers and Practicum students will be selecting their field placements next week. 
      •  Currently, the students are taking care of pre-placement requirements (medical screenings, orientation sessions, etc.) 
      • Students will begin their field placements the week of February 19.
      Academic Support:
      • Bri & Sam, along with Rick, Joe, and Kristine are beginning to meet with support level teachers to discuss ways to improve these courses moving forward. 
      • Juniors finished their ACT Prep course and are now beginning Speech. 
      • Bri is working on requesting accommodations for ACT and AP tests. 
      • Copies of accommodation plans were sent to all parents and students.
      • RtI will begin next Friday, January 26. 
      • Many students are up for IEP/ 504 plan reevaluation. Bri and Sam are working with teachers on data collection and progress monitoring to send to CPS.  
      College Counseling:
      • College 101, a class for juniors to learn about about the college application process, will begin next week and run for 7-weeks. It will be held during seminar once a week and there are about 40 students that have signed up to attend! 
      • Senior acceptances and scholarships continue to roll in! Listen to morning announcements on Fridays to hear where seniors got accepted that week. 
      • Sheri, Mary and Meredith will be in freshman religion classes in February to get students started on Naviance and provide information about calculating GPAs.
      General Counseling:
      • Mary, Tam, and Sheri are coordinating the "Angst Presentation" for teachers, students, and then parents and community members. This will be an Indie Flix film viewing with discussion and Q&A after. The parent/community member presentation will take place at night with a mental health professional panel answering questions after the film. 
      • Counselors are starting their mid-year meetings with freshman. The freshman were supposed to have completed a survey last week answering questions regarding how the year has progressed for them and if there are any current concerns.
